Packing Lists

Smooth MoveHere are some lists that will help you determine what to bring. We suggest you travel lightly. Fewer things. Smaller things. Good luck packing and traveling!

Don't bother to bring these items, they are already provided in your room:

  • Bed loft (85"d x 39.625w x 74"h)
  • Carpet (Bender, Campbell, Dancer, Panther Village, Roth)
  • Desk and Chair
  • Blinds
  • Dresser
  • Mattress (and mattress cover)
  • Wastebasket
  • Recycle Bin

These are things you should be sure to bring:

  • Bath items (towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo/conditioner, shower caddy, flip flops)
  • Bedding (pillow, pillowcase, extra-long sheets, blankets)
  • Cash and/or credit/debit card
  • Cell phone
  • Cleaning supplies (glass cleaner, dusting spray)
  • Clothing (limited amounts, by season)
  • Decorations (posters, pictures, sticky-tack, push pins; adhesive strips are not recommended)
  • Driver's license
  • Eating utensils (silverware, plates, cups, can opener, etc.)
  • Fan
  • Insurance card
  • Key ring
  • Laptop/tablet
  • Laundry items (HE detergent, basket, hangers)
  • Medications (prescriptions, aspirin, etc.)
  • School supplies (backpack, notebook, pens, highlighters, etc.)
  • Social security card or passport (for employment ID)
  • Surge protector power strips
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, Q-tips, etc.)
  • Umbrella
  • UNI ID

These are optional items you may want to bring; be sure to coordinate with your roommate(s):

  • Bike and heavy duty lock (for bike locker information call 319-273-2710 or check out UNI's bike share program)
  • Carpet (Hagemann, Jennings, Lawther, Noehren, Rider, Shull)
  • Closet hooks
  • Computer
  • Cooking appliances (with closed UL-approved heating elements)
  • Desk lamp
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Essential oils diffuser (cold air only)
  • Toaster
  • Furniture (futon, chair)
  • Microwave
  • Refrigerator (4.5 cu. ft. or smaller)
  • Sewing kit
  • Food storage (shelving, stackables)
  • Music player & headphones
  • TV (must be digital and have an internal QAM tuner)
  • Vacuum cleaner (one is available for check-out in the hall office)
  • Gaming system
  • Network cable (for wired network devices like game consoles or Smart TVs)

Be sure to check ResNet Internet requirements before you bring any streaming media devices.

Please, don't bring any of these things:

  • Air conditioner (window or portable)
  • Ceiling fan
  • Bed lofting/bunking materials
  • Hanging items that require nails
  • Candles
  • Fireworks/explosives
  • Hoverboard
  • Open coil appliances
  • Halogen torchier or medusa lamps
  • Pets (except fish in aquariums no larger than 29gal and approved support/service animals)
  • Weapons or ammunition (including toy weapons)
  • Wireless routers or access points (wireless is provided)
